Islamicity Indices and their Elements
In order to measure the Islamicity of the countries in our study, we have divided Islamic teachings into the following four dimensions (with overall Islamicity representing the fifth).
Note: The selection of these was first and foremost tied to what we have summarized elsewhere (Askari and Mohammadkhan book: Islamicity Indices: The Seed for Change, 2015) and secondarily on the availability of information and data for as many countries as possible. We are still hoping to add other items, for instance a measure for abstinence from hoarding if we can find the needed information.
These key dimensions, are broken down further into sub-elements that were built to provide the characteristics of a rule-abiding Muslim community. We present in the table below, the respective components and sub-elements.
